Founded in 2009, the company goal was to address the affordability issues faced by small and micro businesses, and those that accepted low volumes of card payments.
Our first custom-designed merchant services proposition was Payatrader. Today, PayaCardServices (trading under the PAYA Group brand) offers a wide range of card acceptance solutions, addressing the needs of start-ups with no trading history, to large established companies looking to reduce costs or for greater payment functionality, flexibility & control.

Segmented by design
Following the launch of Payatrader, our award-winning ‘Pay As You Go’ product, the brand family evolved to include PayaProfessional, PayaTaxi and PayaCharity.
As the popularity of ‘Pay As You Go’ card acceptance services increased, so did demand from larger businesses wanting similar, more affordable and relevant services. This led to the launch of PayaCardServices, catering for the specific needs of larger businesses and corporates. In addition, we developed & extended our services portfolio to include the latest technology terminals, online application, payamobile app, directory services and white labelling.
2017 saw a refreshed PayaCharity proposition and significantly improved product set, including the introduction of an ethical gateway. As a result, we are working closely with a number of leading UK charities to drive the adoption of new contactless donation box technologies.
This segmented focus will continue to underpin our strategy and the way in which we serve the needs of our business customers and consumers. We love our branding and what it represents – simplicity, relevance and transparency.
Meet the team
Bill Thomson, Managing Director with over 22 years experience in the cards and payments industry. A former FD and MD at Barclaycard Business, MD at Payzone and a founder of NetBanx – the UK’s first generally available agnostic online PSP at the outset of e-commerce in the UK.
Linda Cook, Marketing Director with 30 years marketing experience at senior level at BT, Post Office & Payzone Limited, including 15 years in the specialist billing & payments market.
Ray Draper, Head of Risk and Fraud Management with over 14 years experience at Barclaycard.
Steve Ousley, Head of IT with extensive experience in Systems Programming & IT Development.
Mark Mellor, Sales Director with 20 years experience as a Director in both large and small companies. Mark has spent the last 8 years in card payments, including ISO development.
Trevor Bennett, Marketing Manager with over 10 years experience delivering multi-channel campaigns in Financial Services & Publishing.
